The yearlong tryouts that are the 2013 Houston Astros regular season is drawing to a close soon but there are a few guys that have really stepped up into the spotlight as future stars. A few of those are in the starting rotation right now, carving out a spot for next year and years beyond. Jarred Cosart is one of the more promising of the young starters right now and has been nothing short of dominant over the first several starts of this season. Let’s take a look at his progress.

Cosart has started eight games for the Astros and they have all been quality in nature. Six of those eight starts he has given up either 1 or 0 runs and the other starts were still only 2 and 3 runs given up respectively. To take it a step further, he gave up less than 5 hits in half of his starts as well. This guy is good and getting better as he goes. No one is a sure thing at this point in their MLB careers but Cosart sure seems to be as close as it gets.

He only has a few starts left to impress the Astros management but honestly I think they would be crazy not to give him one of the top three slots next year and allow him the chance to either move up or lose it if he suddenly cannot deliver. This team is still moving in the right direction and Cosart is one of the many pieces of sure proof of that fact. He is a future star, period.
