Oakland Athletics are Fine After Losing Once to Houston Astros

Oakland Athletics

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Even if you happen to be a marginal Major League Baseball fan, you have to love the nature of the game. Paying attention to the way the game is played and how difficult it is really makes one respect the teams and players that succeed. The Oakland Athletics for example have mowed down everyone in their path over the past couple of weeks and earned a spot tied for first place. Then they went into a series against the worst team in the game and lost. How can you not love the game of baseball?

Only in baseball can a team be as on fire as the Athletics have been, gain a tie for first going into not only a series against the Houston Astros but a four-game series at that. What better chance could there have been for them to take advantage and really put some distance between themselves and the Texas Rangers? The first game of the set was with the Rangers having an off day as well so it was a free half-game to gain. And they lost.

It really is okay to lose a game. That is how difficult the game of baseball is. Even the best teams in the world can’t win every day and even the worst teams in the world win every so often. The A’s will be fine with that one loss as long as they follow it with three straight wins over the Astros. Going into this series and losing the set to the Astros or even breaking even would be a much bigger deal and actually not very funny at all. Losing one is something for everyone to nod and smile at.
