It’s September; that means Major League Baseball division races, like the one in the National League Central, are heating up. Currently, the St. Louis Cardinals are in first place, with a half-game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cincinnati Reds are in third place and only 1.5 games back.
Right now, it’s a fun time to be a fan of the Cincinnati Reds. They haven’t looked that great all season, but they are currently playing their best baseball of the season. They recently took three of four games from the St. Louis Cardinals, and have already won the current series against the Los Angeles Dodgers; they have played very well against two of the best teams in the National League.
Not only are the Reds winning, but they’re exciting, thanks in large-part to speedster, Billy Hamilton. So far, Billy Hamilton has stolen four bases and has scored three runs, all without a single plate appearance. As many baseball experts have said, Billy Hamilton could be the Reds’ secret weapon for the remainder of the regular season and into the playoffs. He can come in as a pinch runner late in ball games, steal to get into scoring position, and then could score on a single, like he did today against the Dodgers.
While Billy Hamilton is fun to watch run the bases, it’s also fun to watch guys like Mat Latos, Mike Leake, Homer Bailey, Bronson Arroyo and Tony Cingrani take the mound and deal every time they start. The Reds have one of the best rotations in the National League. Their bullpen is also fun to watch, and they, like the starting rotation, get the job done.
The Cincinnati Reds look to be on their way to the playoffs, and it will be fun to watch their journey.
