For the first time since early May, the Los Angeles Dodgers have dropped more than three games in a row. Upon returning to Chavez Ravine on Monday, the Boys in Blue will need a series win against division rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks, in order to get back on track to the postseason.
Having been swept by the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend, the Dodgers’ stagnant offense has been a huge contributor to the losses. If the bats do not show up, the Dodgers will struggle against Arizona and heavy hitter Paul Goldschmidt.
In a worst case scenario for the Dodgers, another series being swept would certainly put the team in a bad position entering the playoffs. With a seven game losing streak, this scenario would represent a huge loss of all of the momentum the Dodgers’ hot run helped build.
Even worse, the three losses would be to the very Diamondbacks team which is currently trailing the Dodgers in the divisional standings. Although Arizona currently trails LA by 11 games and seem all but eliminated from the postseason, a three game sweep would make a late-season run to overtake the Dodgers an achievable task. That is the last things the Dodgers want to allow to happen.
If the Dodgers can grab two or three wins at home against the Diamondbacks, it would be a huge boost in both their confidence and swagger. Tune in tonight at 7:10 PT to see if Ricky Nolasco can continue his hot performance and lead the Dodgers to a victory against Randall Delgado and Arizona.
