New York Mets Mission: Convince Nationals They are Out of Playoffs

New York Mets

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

There is nothing in the world more important than the task lying before the New York Mets. Beginning with the game on Monday they have to be the team that does the dirty work of the rest of the National League. Their task, if they should choose to accept it is to once and for all convince the Washington Nationals that they are actually out of the National League playoff picture. It will not be an easy task.

Luckily for the Mets, they have some good pitching going for them right now. Even in the absence of young ace Matt Harvey, they are playing well and pitching well which will come in very handy if they plan to win three of four from the Nationals. I believe it will probably take three of four to convince the Nats that they are finally done. It has to be done by someone and the Mets are drawing that job.

Their bats do not need to be all that hot as the Nationals aren’t hitting that well anyway. The issue they have to overcome in order to beat this team is their pitching staff. It is anyone’s guess which pitching staff will show up for the Nats of course. It could be the one that is one of the best in MLB or it could be the one that is a big reason they are out of the playoff race. Either way, the Mets should be able to take care of business pretty well. For the sake of the sanity of the playoff picture, let us all hope they do. Losing the opening game 9 – 0 and getting one hit was not a good way to start. Don’t let us down Mets!
