Pitchers go on winning streaks along with their teams but starting pitchers are also capable of going on a personal winning streak where they win several starts in a row. Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa is cementing his spot as one of the elite pitchers in Major League Baseball with his recent six-game winning streak. It might have been done for a team that isn’t in the playoff hunt but that does not take away from the impressiveness of the streak itself it has not been cheap at all.
The Rockies are far from the playoff race but I’ll tell you who isn’t. The Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers are not out of the race, they are among the best teams in the game. The Reds and Pirates are scuffling with the St. Louis Cardinals in the N.L. Central and the Dodgers are trying to gain the best overall record. All three teams have something in common however in that they were all beaten by De La Rosa during this streak.
For the Reds he beat Bronson Arroyo and his victim against the Pirates was Francisco Liriano. You might scoff at the Rockies and even at De La Rosa but this streak is nothing to sneeze at. It has been dominant and impressive to not only win six straight decisions but six consecutive starts with zero no-decisions during the time frame. The Rockies figure to be improved next season but they don’t have to look for improvement in their ace starting pitcher. De La Rosa is capable of pitching with the best in the game right now.
