Most of the teams across Major League Baseball are enjoying taking a look at the play of their top prospects as the month of September crawls on towards the close of the 2013 regular season. Among those teams the Seattle Mariners might have had the single most promising debut of them all with starting pitching prospect Taijuan Walker. Walker came with a great deal of hype which always makes the situation more difficult for the player but he performed flawlessly.

He has been shut down after three starts likely because of how highly the Mariners think of him. Over that time however he went 1 – 0 with a 3.60 ERA and struck out 12 batters in 15 innings. His popping fastball was something to behold and he clearly had more to go with it. In MLB, great fastballs that have nothing with them get creamed by the second time through the line-up at the very latest.

Walker showed the ability to mix and match his stuff to real life MLB hitters and did a supremely good job of it. He did a good enough job in fact that he thinks his chances of being with the Mariners next season are pretty good. When asked his thoughts, manager Eric Wedge said, “No doubt about it.” I would agree completely with Wedge. I believe you can add another name to the growing list of good to great Mariners pitchers in the name of Taijuan Walker.
