Texas Rangers’ Yu Darvish Needs Strong Finish to Win Cy Young Award
The American League Cy-Award picture is kind of muddy. There are several pitchers around the league that could lay claim to the award for any number of reasons. To be sure one of those is Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish. Darvish has been dominant from the time the season started until just recently. Finally there seem to be a few dints in the Darvish armor but he can still win the award. To do so he simply needs to take the remaining starts he has and shut the opponent down.
He needs something to push him over the top. Consecutive shutouts to end the season and help the Rangers claim the American League West would work wonders for the award going in his direction. In the same way if he finally got his perfect game or no-hitter it would be good as well to ensure him a top spot for the award.
On the other hand if he were to go out and look sloppy in the last few starts while Max Scherzer and others go out and dominate, it could really push him down the list. Things are that close in the A.L. It is almost like a playoff race actually. A great rest of the season is something to be proud of but as close as it is, the final month will probably be what matters the most.
Darivsh can do it and really should do it. His Rangers are falling downward and need his dominance to resurface if they are to ensure themselves a wildcard playoff spot. I think he has been one of the top five starters all season but that will not be good enough without a strong September push.
