Cleveland Indians Have No Such Thing as One Must Win Game

The current series that the Cleveland Indians are closing out is the one between themselves and division rival Kansas City Royals. The Royals are trying as hard as they can to replace the Indians as the main contender to the second wildcard spot but that doesn’t look as likely as the Indians position. At one-half game behind actually both spots going into play on Wednesday, the Indians are in perfect spot. That is especially the case with the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays playing each other.

However, unlike the Royals, the Indians do not really have one single game that can be labeled as a must win. Instead of a must win games the Indians simply need to win most of the games they play. If they win series from here on out there is a great chance they will own one of the two wildcard positions. After that they will have one must win game for absolute certainty in the wildcard playoff game.

Probabilities will tell you that the Rangers and Rays both still have a better chance to hang on to the spot than the Indians have to gain it but that isn’t true if the Indians win most of their games. If they do, even still being one half of a game out, they will most assuredly overtake one of the other two since they have been playing so badly. Here also is where the Indians slightly weaker schedule will come in. They don’t have to win every game or one single game, just most games in order to take a playoff spot. Their chances now are better than ever.
