Tampa Bay Rays are Rebounding Nicely in Wildcard Race Over Last Week

Some may not realize that the currently rebounding and previously struggling Tampa Bay Rays went an incredible 21 – 5 in the month of August. It can be so easy to forget how very good a team can be when they are struggling for whatever reason. And whatever the reason for their struggles over the past several weeks, the Rays are finally starting to rebound just in time to have a chance to salvage their 2013 MLB postseason spot.

Winners of five of their last seven games, the Rays went into play against Wildcard rival Texas Rangers on Thursday one game up in the standings. That means that they have put the Rangers behind them as a cushion to protect them against the hard charging teams like the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles. It does not mean they are safe though, especially with their next several games.

They start a four game series with the Orioles on Friday that will be absolutely critical to the A.L. wildcard picture and follow that with another team that wants to sweep them; the New York Yankees. It is a good thing that they are playing better over the last week. I’ll make this prediction. If they can win six of the next eight games, they’ll be solidly in the MLB postseason. If that result is flipped they can kiss it goodbye. Now this is baseball.
