Miami Marlins Need Giancarlo Stanton to Up His Game Next Season

Giancarlo Stanton

The Miami Marlins do not seem to be interested in trading Giancarlo Stanton in any way. There are some that disagree with that but I do not. I think the Marlins should want to keep him because he is one of the more promising players in all of Major League Baseball and they still have plenty of control over his contract. To stick with him the way they want to however, they need Stanton to up his game in a big way.

Stanton is certainly one of the better young outfielders in the game but this season he had a couple of stats that lagged behind where a premier outfielder should be. He did have 23 homers, or he does at this point but his batting average is only .253 and he only has 55 RBI. For the season of a top of the line outfielder in MLB, that is too low.

To be fair to Stanton, he can’t drive in a ton of runs when no one is getting on base which was the case for a lot of this season. Still, he has to pick up his hits with runners in scoring position a little bit. That and all around plate discipline will help his batting average rise towards .300 where it really needs to be.

It could take more than just next season to get to that point but Stanton needs it to be next year for value reasons and the Marlins need to have his successful future kick in ASAP where they can maximize his effect on the team. All in all, Stanton needs to perform better in those few areas. If he does then it will be only a small matter of time before his name is included in MVP talks.
