Toronto Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos is not one to give any hints when it comes down to making moves, but the odd time he does shed some light about what is going on in his head, you can be sure that something is going to happen sooner rather than later. The unpredictable Anthopoulos has made it cleat to first baseman Adam Lind that there is a good chance that the Blue Jays will pick up Lind’s 2014 option worth $7 million, Sportsnet.ca’s Shi Davidi reported.

According to Lind himself, Anthopoulos did add in his signature vagueness by also making it clear that nothing is certain yet. But again, this is all good news to Lind as he actually deserves the shot to come back and try his best to continue to swing the hot bat that he has going as of right now.

This isn’t a similar situation to the one that Anthopoulos is going to find himself in, if he hasn’t already, with manager John Gibbons. Anthopoulos has said that he isn’t worried about Gibbons, and Gibbons shouldn’t be worried about his job. I’m calling a case of Anthopoulos crying wolf on this one as Gibbons doesn’t deserve to come back as the Blue Jays manager in 2014. However, Lind does deserve to come back as his numbers speak for themselves.

So far this season, Lind has hit .284/.352/.486 while smacking 22 home runs and putting up 61 RBIs, and there’s reason to believe that Lind can only improve on these solid numbers. Lind has always been very confident in his ability to hit the ball hard, even when he has found himself in a slump. He continues to tell reporters that although he wants to be a Blue Jay in 2014, he isn’t worried about what may or may not happen with his 2014 option, as he is confident that he will find work somewhere else if he had to.

The Blue Jays should take the confidence that Lind is showing seriously and absolutely run with it. He will be a solid everyday DH with the ability to fill in at first base for Edwin Encarnacion whenever the slugger needs it. Lind also provides some serious pop coming from the left side and has been an absolute nightmare for right-handed pitchers across the American League. Lind has made his case and proved that he can be a home run threat every time he takes the batters box, and now it’s time for Anthopoulos to put his money where his mouth is and pick up that option.
