Kansas City Royals Fans Are Hopefully Enjoying the Ride

With two straight extra-inning victories, the Kansas City Royals are still kicking and scratching for a Wild Card spot. The odds are heavily against them at this point, but if they win their final six games, they still have a puncher’s chance at the postseason.

It’s been a very long time since Royals fans have been able to experience games that mattered this late in the season, and I really hope they’re savoring it.

KC fans have been beyond patient with their team and deserve to experience the playoffs more than any other fan base. Year in and year out, they show up to Kauffman Stadium despite the fact the Royals haven’t been to the postseason since 1985, and just recently sealed their second winning season in the last 19 years.

They may not control their own destiny anymore, but Kansas City is in a playoff atmosphere right now. With six games remaining, they trail the Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays by three games in the Wild Card race, and the Texas Rangers by two.

KC fans should be at the edge of their seats, because every game is pretty much do or die at this point. As long as the Royals keep winning, the magnitude of their upcoming games will be enormous. Whether Kansas City makes it or not, I hope the fans appreciate the ride, because it’s the best one they’ve had in several years.

In fact, it’s still going, and until the math says they’re out, the fans should enjoy every minute of it. Yes, the Royals faithful deserve to experience the playoffs, but hopefully what they want won’t blind them to what they have.
