Miami Marlins Achieved Something Special with Defeat of Detroit Tigers

It is no secret that the Detroit Tigers have struggled through the month of September but that should not take away the accomplishment by the Miami Marlins who defeated them on Friday night. With Nathan Eovaldi going on Saturday night, the world of Major League Baseball should not think terribly of the Tigers if they lose two of three from the worst team in the National League. After all the Marlins now own a win over nearly every single postseason-bound team in each league.

In the National League the teams are guaranteed and the Marlins have a win over the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. That might not be terribly surprising since they play very tough for a team of their win total. However, they also have wins over the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. They lost four to the Tampa Bay Rays and did not play the Boston Red Sox or Oakland Athletics.

At this point all but three of the teams currently postseason-bound were played tough and nasty by the Marlins. That might not be something that makes a clubhouse poster but then again, they can have a great chance at being able to say they have wins over the World Series champions. That to me would be a great way to begin the 2014 spring training; with the idea that they beat the best of the best the season before and should be even better in 2014. It isn’t that difficult to imagine the Marlins as a winning team. They aren’t as far away as their record suggests they are.
