There have been many rumors about the desire of many teams already to have Matt Williams as their manager in 2014. It makes plenty of sense because Williams is not only a well respected coach at the MLB level but was also one of the most respected players for his entire playing career. The only issue with this is that the Arizona Diamondbacks are in a strange situation with Williams possibly on the way out.
Many players currently on the DBacks roster have voiced their desire to have Williams managing their baseball club. Yes, you read that right. Even though they were under Kirk Gibson, players during this season voiced that they wanted Williams to manage them. Off of the few rumors that were spinning, it didn’t necessarily seem that Kevin Towers, team GM was willing to make that change.
Now with the DBacks sitting at home watching the playoffs, I would be willing to be things could change rather quickly if Williams gets a job offer to go elsewhere. On one hand if Williams decides to go somewhere else and Towers does nothing, several coaches from the current DBacks staff could go with him.
Also, when he begins to get the offers rolling in Towers might want to offer Williams the managerial job of the DBacks after all. Either way, as Williams begins to get things moving in a few days or weeks, it will be fun to watch what happens to he and the DBacks staff.
