There were a lot of people upset when the Chicago Cubs fired manager Dale Sveum. Svuem might have been upset but he certainly wasn’t surprised as the Cubs and Sveum had agreed that he would not be a long term managing solution. One team that definitely was not surprised or upset about Sveum’s firing is the Kansas City Royals. They have snatched Sveum up already to serves as a coach for their improving team.
As it turns out Sveum has coached for Royals manager Ned Yost before. He was with him for three years while Yost was the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers. These two know each other and apparently work well together. According to reports, Sveum will serve as the infielders coach as well as probably the first or third base coach while the Royals are hitting.
This is a good move for the Royals. Chances are Sveum wasn’t really going to manage somewhere else this year because of the rich crop of managers out there right now. Most would talk with Dusty Baker, Joe Girardi or even newcomers Matt Williams and possibly Cal Ripkin Jr. before Sveum. Considering those facts it is not only the best move for the Royals but Sveum as well. In all likelihood he will rise to the top and mange another team within the next few years.
