The New York Yankees are just like everyone else. They want Joe Girardi as their manager in 2014 as well. The Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals and others have nothing on the Yankees because they have already offered Girardi a contract. It seems that Girardi enjoys managing in New York and he certainly could be said to be one of the most prized managers in the game. Now the decision is all up to him. He can return if he wants to because the Yankees gave him plenty of reason to do so.

Girardi was offered somewhere in the ballpark of $5 million per year to return and manage the Yankees. That would make him the second highest paid skipper in Major League Baseball. Girardi doesn’t strike me as the type of guy who will make this decision based on money but in case that was a factor, he now has a great offer. I mean this is a heck of a lot more than a qualifying type offer.

The Cubs might be the biggest competition for Girardi’s services because not only does Girardi have history with the Cubs but some family in the area. The decision ultimately will come down to his immediate family however. I know that wherever he goes, they will have the most passionate manager in the game leading their team. Isn’t it fitting that he return to the team with the most passionate history? I know Yankees fans probably hope so.
