ALDS: Time for Tampa Bay Rays to Show What They’re Made Of

Coming into the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox, many including myself expected them to have fits trying to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays were just too hot and playing too well for the Red Sox to run over them. That is exactly what they have done however and the Rays now find themselves with their back against the wall in a 0 – 2 deficit in the series going back home to Tampa. For the Rays, go time is now.

All season long they have been a team that reacted ferociously when they were backed into a corner. When it looked like they were about to fall completely out of the playoff race in early September they rallied and stayed in the wildcard race. After that they appeared to be falling completely out of the playoff hunt again but rallied to win at the last moment to force a one game playoff. They one that playoff game and then the wildcard playoff game and all was well.

Two games later however there is little doubt that the Rays were indeed outmatched by the Red Sox. It isn’t the first time they have been outmatched this season and they know what to do when they are. Considering it is in Tampa, they are in as good of a position as they can in down 0 – 2. They certainly wouldn’t want to be going into Boston down as much. At least now they can take one game at a time and try to force a five game series. With Alex Cobb going in game 4, there is little excuse not to at least force a game four.
