Almost everyone around the Tampa Bay Rays expects David Price to be traded this offseason. Even Price himself believes he has spent his last season with the Rays. All signs point to this being true and the Texas Rangers are already rumored to be one of the top contenders to land him in their rotation. It might seem like a time to be sad that a great starter will be moving on but other than the fact that Price won’t be there anymore, there is nothing bad about this potential trade.
If fans need a reason to look at this as a good thing, they need to look no further than star outfielder Wil Myers. He was a big part of the Rays season in 2013 and will certainly have a great chance to carve out a career with the Rays as long as he continues to develop in the way he is right now. Few Rays fans would be willing to part ways with Myers right now considering the great future he has in front of him.
Remember however that the Rays would still be facing Myers as a member of the Kansas City Royals if they hadn’t traded him to the Rays along with a bunch of other players for James Shields and Wade Davis. Price is every bit the pitcher that Shields and Davis were so just think of the package that will come back to the Rays in return for him leaving. It will be worth it for sure. Don’t worry about the pitching staff either. They still have Alex Cobb, Matt Moore and a whole bunch of young prospects coming along the line.
