There were rumors as early as June and July that the Los Angeles Angels were interested in trading second baseman Howie Kendrick. Anyone that knows me knows how ridiculous I think that is. He was one of the more consistent players all season long and they want to get rid of him? Who knows what goes through the mind of a MLB GM though? I surely do not. I might be able to pick out what the Kansas City Royals GM is thinking however. Something to the effect of if the Angels are trading Kendrick, the Royals want him.
The rumors suggest that this is true. Yes, the Angels definitely are still interested in trading one of their better and younger players in Kendrick. Though the Royals might think that is as laughable as I do, they are willing to show their support by being the team that Kendrick is traded to. As the Kendrick rumor mil goes ‘round, they are the first team asking each and every time.
Kendrick would be great for the Royals in more than one way. He clearly is a reliable offensive threat along with being a very good defensive player as well. He statistically was one of the top five second basemen in the American League and not the fifth one down in most cases. If the Royals are going to lose some of their 2013 starting pitching staff, which it appears they will, having an added bat like Kendrick would be a very impressive step forward.
