What Will the Chicago Cubs Lineup Look Like If They Don’t Make Any Trades?

The Chicago Cubs have obviously built up one of the best farm systems in all of baseball. I’ve been thinking that they’ll try and use some of that depth to get a couple big names like David Price, Carlos Gonzalez, and/or Giancarlo Stanton (if he’s available). If they don’t make any trades, what do I envision the Cubs lineup being in say- 2015 if all goes EXACTLY PERFECTLY right? Let’s take a look.

1) Albert Almora- CF

Almora’s ability to hit the ball hard to all fields is going to make him a very intriguing play to hit leadoff. He can run, plays a strong Lf, and is developing some decent power. He could be a VERY interesting play for the Cubs over the next few years.

2) Starlin Castro-SS

Yup, I’m not ready to give up on him yet. If the Cubs allow him to get comfortable at the plate, get rid of the ridiculous open stance and moving hands, he could easily revert back to what he was a few years ago.

3) Anthony Rizzo- RF

Wow, did I really put Rizzo in right? I did. There’s a guy hitting 5th named Dan Vogelbach who can hit a baseball into orbit. He’s a bigger guy and no way can play the outfield. If Vogelbach is ready, Rizzo is moving.

4) Javier Baez- 2B

Someone has to move and I don’t think it’s Castro. Baez hit 35 homers in the minors this year. He’ll be at Wrigley next summer and I can’t wait.

5) Dan Vogelbach- 1B

As mentioned, he can hit a baseball very far. He’s really come a long way in terms of getting himself into better shape and I hope the Cubs hang on to him.

6) Kris Bryant-3B

The best hitter in college last year and number 2 pick overall can also MASH. I’m excited to see him at Wrigley as well.

7) Jorge Soler-LF

I’m not sure how his bat translates to the big league level in all honesty. He’s incredibly athletic but I’m not sure he’s like Yasiel Puig.

8) Wellington Castillo- C

He showed some growth over the last few months or so. Let’s see how he responds.

Still in the minors, busted, or traded for pitching:

1) Arismendy Alcantara- SS.

2) Matt Szczur- OF

3) Christian Villanueva-3B

4) Jae Moon-Ha- OF

5) Jeimer Candelario- 3B

There’s a ton of talent on this team. There’s guys that can hit for average and for power. There’s some speed and guys that can make things happen on the bases. I’m not sure this is a very good defensive squad, but you never know how these guys will develop. I’m excited about the future, but if this organization wants to win a championship or 2, they’ll need to use this depth and start going after guys via trade. All in all though, the Cubs are getting closer.

I don’t know how you think Soler will be in CF when he’s only played RF in the Minors and was signed as a RF. Almora in LF when he’s only played CF in the minors and was drafted as a CF. You really think Rizzo will move to the OF? when he is a gold glove type first baseman and if Lake keeps playing good he won’t stay in LF? Dan Vogelbach only had 19 home runs and is 6’0 250, when he will be a trade bait. Also Baez had 37 home runs and 2 more in the playoffs I hope you rant sport guys don’t get paid because if you do WOW!

    • AG Ginn 515

since who ever wrote is an idiot let me put my version but as positions
Albert Almora CF (2015 around June or July)
      Starlin Castro SS
      Anthony Rizzo 1st
Kris Brant 3rd or corner OF (September call up after huge 2014 season)
Javier Baez 2nd or 3rd or corner OF (we will find out in June or July 2014)
Jorge Soler RF (2015 around June or July)
Arismendy Alcantara 2nd (we will find out in June or July 2014)
      Wellington Castillo C

I think a lot people are over looking Junior Lake, he came up through the system playing SS, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st. Didn’t start playing outfield till he got up to AAA and was at RF that was just six times. For the short time he played the outfield I was impressed on how athletic he is and If he has a good 2014 season and can stay healthy from a good off season learning the outfield on a full time basis through winter ball and spring training. Since he’s 6’3 215 if he can add 15-20 pounds of muscle with his speed, I think power can come along.

Some of these guys might not pan out, that’s just the game of baseball, but since we have one of the biggest budgets in baseball we can sign a top free agent or trade many of are other prospects, like Mike Olt, Dan Vogelbach, Matt Szczur, Brett Jackson, Christian Villanueva, Jae-Hoon Ha, Jeimer Candelario, Gloskar Amaya, Josh Vitters, or other people I mentioned before, to acquire elite pitching if we don’t develop our own or go after a position players to fill a need. Keep and eye out on guys like CJ Edwards, Kyle Hendricks, Neil Ramirez, Eric Jokisch, Arodys Vizcaino, Ben Wells, and Pierce Johnson.

I’m betting they trade Jeff Samardzija, Nate Schierholtz, Darwin Barney sometime now or around the trade deadline, also the cheap free agent rentals they’ll sign this off season if they decide to sign any to acquire some more young prospects for the future.

        You’re an idiot dude.

If you don’t know anything about Dan Vogelbach, you shouldn’t be commenting. He’s got the best power in the system and he’s going to either be traded in a HUGE deal or he’s going to be at Wrigley. If he’s at Wrigley, it isn’t going to be in the outfield.

“Keep an eye out for CJ Edwards”, yeah except you didn’t even know who he was until he was traded for Garza. Gil (the Author) wrote an article 2 months before that trade saying if Garza goes to the Rangers, the Cubs need to get the best arm in the system back, CJ Edwards.

        • AG Ginn 515

So you’re telling me Dan Vogelbach got better power then Javier Baez and Kris Bryant? well scouts sure think so don’t they look it up! I actually did know about CJ from a year ago when we traded Ryan Dempster deal and if Matt Graza didn’t get hurt was also in the trade rumors last year along with Mike Olt, Martin Perez.

          Thanks for your Feedback

          • Farva55

Martin Perez was never going anywhere, especially not for Garza.

Dan Vogelbach can mash. Go look up his video. Look at his swing. The guy is strong as bull and still growing into his body. He’s going to be huge at Wrigley or huge for another team. It’s not my fault you don’t know anything.

          • AG Ginn 515

I know who he is bruh, I’ve seen video on him…sorry for hatin on him alright I hope he can make it to the big leagues. Now my opinion though I think Javier Beaz and Kris Bryant are better. Vohelbach is the 10th prospect and been with the cubs organization as long as Baez right? Baez will be brought up around June or July. Vohelbach will probably start in AA next year.

          • SportsGenius705

And you’re saying he can’t be in the bigs by 2015? Cool logic. You continue to put your foot in your mouth while bashing writers that actually know what they’re talking about. Outside the box thinkers are typically more successful than those who think like you.

If Vogelbach is as good as most fans/writers think he is, calling someone an idiot for trying to figure out how to get his bat in the lineup without losing Rizzo shows pure ignorance.

          • AG Ginn 515

I’m bashing the writers because they have guys at the wrong positions and how would they move Rizzo when he can be a gold glove type at 1st and is 6’3 and Vohelbach is 6’0 which don’t mean anything because Fielder is 6’0, I just think he’ll be traded to the AL and be a DH type of a guy. Hows my foot in my month here? I’m saying opinion like these writers are, they are not looking up information on these guys.

          • SportsGenius705

Defense is over rated. See moneyball.

I’d rather have Rizzo AND Vogelbach in the lineup if they can both hit. If Vogelbach is traded, it’s going to be in a huge deal which will be good as well.

And I don’t 100% agree with Gil in terms of his positions for the outfielder, but I will say this:

Almora is filling out, getting bigger. He might lose a little bit of his foot speed as he keeps getting bigger. Soler’s body frame is more athletic and could be a CF at Wrigley. No harm there whatsoever and I understand the viewpoint without insulting the writer (like you did). It’s all moot anyway if the Cubs trade Vogelbach because I hate to be the one to tell you but if the Cubs hang on to him, he’s going to be a 1B and Rizzo is moving to the outfield or being traded himself.

          • AG Ginn 515

Lets see how this coming year works out for everybody in the system, I know a lot of people don’t like what the Cubs are doing but I do and can’t wait to see what this team looks like in a couple years…You’re right though I shouldn’t have called the writer an idiot and just stated my own opinion and not to sound like a smartass.

      • Farva55

If you think you can write, you can’t. Go back to school.

        • AG Ginn 515

thanks for hating on me lol

          • Farva55

You opened pandora’s box by talking shit.

          • AG Ginn 515

Pandora the internet music station? hows that talking shit? i’m confused

          • SportsGenius705

            LOLOLOLOL WOW.

          • AG Ginn 515

            I know right

      • SportsGenius705

You’re still retarded. Yeah, let’s go to MLB.com and get the top 20 prospects and pretend you know something about baseball. Cool.

You’re saying Gil is an idiot because he’s projecting Bryant to stay at third so they can bring Vogelbach when ready? That’s the only difference!!!!!!!

STUPID SPORTS FAN! Now I know why Cub fans are the dumbest around.

        • AG Ginn 515

as forest Gump says Stupid is a does

          • SportsGenius705

Have you ever heard of punctuation? It’s a really good thing.

          • AG Ginn 515

I didn’t know that….thanks for pointing that out

    • Farva55

WOW, you’re an idiot. AGAIN. You commented on another article saying Vogelbach isn’t trade bait.

Stop pretending you know baseball because it’s VERY clear you do not.

      • AG Ginn 515

I did say he was trade bait

        • Farva55

Not on another article you didn’t.

          • AG Ginn 515

trade many of are other prospects, like Mike Olt, Dan Vogelbach, Matt Szczur, Brett Jackson, Christian Villanueva, Jae-Hoon Ha, Jeimer Candelario, Gloskar Amaya, Josh Vitters

            I think i said it

          • SportsGenius705

            Our*

Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters??!?!?!?! Yeah they’ll totally get a TON of value. This isn’t MLB The Show. You can’t hit the “force trade” LOL.

          • AG Ginn 515

            Good point captain obvious

    • SportsGenius705

“Only had”. You’re clearly the biggest dumbass in the history of sports fans. You do know if played 162 games, 19 homers would translate to around 30 right? DV is only like 19 or 20 too. It’s called projection genius.

      • AG Ginn 515

Since you think he’s that 30 homer guy, lets see how he does this coming year then…I bet Kris Bryant will have more Homers RBI’s better AVG,OBP,SLG.

        • SportsGenius705

I would hope so. Vogelbach is a 2nd round guy and only 19 or 20. Bryant is a 3 year D1 kid which should put him a year or 2 older AND was the 2nd pick in the draft. I never once said Vogelbach is better than Bryant. The fact you write Vogelbach off simply shows you don’t know what you’re talking about.

          • AG Ginn 515

I’m not off about Vogelbach may be over looking him, I hope he turns into a good everyday player….just my opinion will he be as good as Baez and Bryant? we’ll find out…I and probably more Cubs fans follow the minor leagues more than the big league Cubs.

You know he was drafted the same year as Baez right and is the same age?

I also know he’s the 3rd rated 1st baseman in the minors

          • SportsGenius705

So, you’re calling the author an idiot for trying his best to get his bat in the lineup? Nice.

Almora is filling out. I would not be surprised if he’s a left fielder by the time he gets to the big. Soler is more athletic than Almora so I can see it. No one knows what the Cubs are going to do in 2 years. Not even you.

          • AG Ginn 515

I agree with you on this one

    • Steven

Wow AG Ginn 515. I really hope you aren’t a Cubs fan. I saw Danny V play last year and he hit a 475 foot homer and he’s like prince fielder. If the Cubs don’t trade him he has to play first which means Rizzo will have to move or Vogelbach has to get traded. It’s the only way it works.

      • AG Ginn 515

We will see if he has a year like Javier Baez had this year, I’m not gonna lie I’m over looking him because of guys like Kris Bryant and Baez. Vogelbach won’t make it with the Cubs he’ll be traded

        • Steven

That would be fine because he can be the cornerstone to get a guy like David Price or even Carlos Gonzalez or someone like that.

          • AG Ginn 515

Yeah he’d be a guy that you would throw in a deal…I don’t mean to sound like a hater here but I don’t think hes a good as Baez and Bryant.
