Everyone that knows anything about the Los Angeles Angels knows that they really bombed offensively this season. Mike Trout was greater than the year before and Mark Trumbo was solid as was Howie Kendrick. Still they just didn’t get the job done during a large part of the season. This fact led to rumors that either the GM or manager Mike Scioscia would get fired but instead both stayed. They chose to hire hitting coach Don Baylor instead and that was the most beautiful move they’ll make all offseason.
The Angels are not short on talent or proven egos, oops I mean track records, they were short on production. Baylor is most certainly the perfect man for this job considering all of those factors and more. He has proven that he knows a lot about hitting as a player, a manager and a hitting coach. He has proven that he is able to teach hitting to anyone and everyone including, possibly specializing on MVP level talent.
Can you say Josh Hamilton? This is the guy I am thinking of that will have the most benefit shown from Baylor but there are others. After what I have seen from Baylor with the likes of Paul Goldschmidt and Chipper Jones, I would be almost confident enough to guarantee the Angels see a big offensive upswing for the 2014 season. This guy is a perfect choice for this team and this position. It’s beautiful really, it is.
