20 Lasting Images From the 2013 World Series

The 2013 World Series is now in the books. It took six games, but the Boston Red Sox prevailed over the St. Louis Cardinals. This installment of the Fall Classic had a little bit a of everything. There were dramatic home runs, crazy finishes and dominate performances from pitchers on both sides.

This year's World Series will be remembered for several things. Boston's victory marked the first time since 1918 that the Red Sox won a championship on their home turf. Fenway Park hadn't experienced the feeling it had on Wednesday night since the days of Babe Ruth. If that doesn't put it in perspective, America was also in the middle of World War I the last time the Red Sox clinched in Boston.

But more than anything else, the 2013 WS will be remembered for the oddball finishes to games three and four. Never before had a WS ended on an obstruction call or a pick off. The obstruction call was controversial and maybe not exactly what fans wanted to see, but it was ultimately the right call. As for the pick off to end game four, that's just something that can't happen. Not only had it never happened to end a WS game before, it had never happened in postseason history. It cost the Cardinals a chance to see what their best hitter could do in another clutch situation.

So as with any championship series, there are defining moments like the ones mentioned above that will be frozen in time forever. Luckily our good friends at USA Today have captured these moments with great photographs.

Here are 20 lasting images from the 2013 World Series between the Cardinals and Red Sox:
