Ken Gurnick, a Dodgers.com writer, reported Thursday that the Los Angeles Dodgers were acknowledged with 16 nominees for the 2013 GIBBY Awards. It’s nice to see the team’s standout players finally getting some due respect.

For those of you who don’t know, GIBBY stands for Greatness In Baseball Yearly, and the trophies are handed out annually after being voted upon by “media, front-office personnel, MLB alumni, fans at MLB.com and the Society for American Baseball Research.” Although the GIBBYs include your traditional awards like best hitter, pitcher, rookie, MVP and comeback player, they add an interesting twist in that the awards are not separated into AL and NL. The GIBBYs also bring a unique aspect in their not-so-common categories like best play, walk-off and moment from the 2013 season.

With their 16 nominations, the Dodgers lead all other NL teams in nominations and are well represented. Among these, Clayton Kershaw is nominated for MVP, best pitching performance – his complete game, four-hit shutout against the Colorado Rockies – and best starting pitcher.

Young Cuban phenom, Yasiel Puig, made a showing of his own as he received a GIBBY nod four times: best rookie, play of the year for throwing out Andrelton Simmons at third with a laser, moment of the year for his MLB debut and best walk-off for his bomb in the 11th inning to win 1-0 against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dodgers clubhouse and fans even got in the action as both are nominated for the Cut4 top-trending topic of the year. The Boys in Blue got into some hilarious antics in the clubhouse as Korean star Hyun-Jin Ryu put on his best Psy Gangam Style imitation and even roped Kershaw and Matt Kemp into dancing with him. In the same category, two fans made the lowlight reel as they were caught on the Dodger Stadium Kiss Cam, but the young man bolted up the stairs to avoid getting caught kissing his sister on camera in a hilarious moment.

All of these Dodgers fans, players, and moments deserve to be recognized and need your help in order to be voted the winners of the awards. Check out the GIBBYs website to read their stories and watch the awesome plays and odd moments. The winners will be announced in early December.
