MLB Trade Rumors came out with its 2014 Top 50 Free Agents With Predictions on Sunday, and there was one free agent that was on the list that they predicted to sign with the Miami Marlins. In need of a third baseman, it was predicted that the Marlins could land free agent Juan Uribe this offseason as a possible fill-in before Colin Moran is ready to be recalled. He would serve as an upgrade to Ed Lucas.

Uribe played for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season and hit .278/.331/.438 with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs. He had 22 doubles last season as well, the most since 2010. It was Uribe’s first season at full health with the Dodgers after coming to the team from the San Francisco Giants after its World Series-winning season. Uribe even hit two huge home runs in the National League Division Series.

Adding Uribe to the Marlins would be a big boost to the team that is looking for someone to protect Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup. However, it is important to note that Lucas was beginning to heat up at the end of the season. He batted .321/.337/.452 with a homer and nine RBIs. Signing with Uribe could hinder his potential success with the Marlins in the future, if there is any.

Passing up on Uribe would not be the brightest move. If Miami can lure Uribe into the organization, it makes the team a little bit better. However, they may get turned off if the asking price increases during the bidding process.
