Cleveland Indians Rumors: Tim Hudson Talks With Terry Francona are Good Sign
Even without having given Tim Hudson a qualifying offer, it is no doubt who the front runner for signing the veteran starter is. The Atlanta Braves have the clear inside track on re-signing their long time veteran ace. There is a chance that Hudson will look on the free agent market however and test the value of what could happen for him elsewhere. That is where the Cleveland Indians come in. They need someone to solidify their starting rotation in the worst way and Hudson would be a perfect option for that role.
How can they get his attention though? It won’t be simple with a great guy like Hudson. He isn’t simply going to run to the team that offers the most money though additional years on a contract with possible incentives might turn his head. The conversation that Hudson had with Terry Francona is a very promising thing for the Indians though because for him to play away from his actual home which is minutes away from the Braves’ Turner Field, it is going to take one on one talking.
Francona is a great baseball man and he is a solid person. Talking with him would at least let Hudson know that he could jump easily into a great clubhouse situation there and even be united with another former Oakland Athletics player in Jason Giambi. There could be several good things about the move for Hudson that could really get his attention off of the Braves who are likely to go one year and a bottom of the line deal. It isn’t necessarily likely at this point but having conversations with Huddy is the right way to go.
