The Philadelphia Phillies are in a need of a lot of help this offseason. They are on the lookout for bullpen help, starting pitching and a possible outfielder. What is the most important hole the Phillies need to fill? Pitching coach.
With Ryne Sandberg coming in as the new manager, he gets to pick his coaching staff. He decided at the end of the season that longtime coach Rich Dubee would not return. This has put the Phillies in a hole as there is less than 100 days until pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater for Spring Training.
Signing a pitching coach has to become a priority before signing players. There are not many options left as everyone that the team seems interested in has gone to other clubs. The pitching coach is a key role to the team as they develop the pitchers and keep them on track. They also help them develop new pitches. If the Phillies do not find a pitching coach soon, they will be at a loss.
One option they have is bringing back someone who once was in their organization. This could be a good move as they would already be familiar with the pitchers and what they are comfortable with throwing. There are many ways to look at the situation, but they are running out of time.
The front office needs to get moving. It would be nice for the team to have a full coaching staff before the winter meetings. It will be interesting to see what happens and who takes the spot as they have big shoes to fill.
