There are a few issues the Colorado Rockies will look at during this offseason. One of the big ones for them and a lot of other teams is the pitching staff. There are questions in the starting rotation but also big ones in the bullpen for the Rockies which really needs to see improvement throughout over their 2013 performance. One player on the free agent market that is rumored to be on their radar would potentially do a lot to help their situation and that is Jose Veras.
If you have watched Veras long enough you probably know that he isn’t exactly lights out all the time. Veras has been known to blow a lead here and there and to blow a save when he was in that role as well. For the most part however what Veras gives a bullpen is a steady veteran arm that has plenty of life left to assist a team in need just such as the Rockies. He wouldn’t likely take over the closer role or anything like that but the man has been where many Rockies haven’t.
Experience, consistency and production would be fairly regular from Veras. Certainly they would be regular enough to warrant giving him a little money and letting him carve out a spot in the bullpen. They wouldn’t need to go that high on a deal to bring him in over the other teams that are interested and he could provide much greater value than they would end up paying for him. It seems like a no-brainer and I think they should make it a pretty high priority.
