Minnesota Twins Rumors: Terry Ryan Should Go All Out For Robinson Cano

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Twins GM Terry Ryan has been with the organization for a long time. This season, with some money to spend, it is time for Ryan to make a move.

The best move that Ryan can make is to throw money at free agent second baseman Robinson Cano. Cano is the top free agent this offseason, and there is no doubt that the likely suitor will be his former team, the New York Yankees. However, with nothing to lose, Minnesota can can make a huge play for Cano this offseason and would be the Yankees’ only competition.

There is no doubt that Cano would want to play for a contender, but if Ryan is willing to throw 8-9 years at him along with a huge lump sum of money, it could sway Cano. The Twins are in need of a second baseman to play above Brian Dozier, and adding a Cano would give protection to a young Byron Buxton, who could be an opening day starter for the Twins in April.

Minnesota would be the Yankees’ only competition as the other contenders for Cano do not necessarily need a second baseman. Ryan needs to make a splash to get Minnesota back into the playoffs and taking a top talent like Cano is the first step in the right direction.
