No one would begin to suggest that Johan Santana isn’t a risk to any team he happens to sign with. He has got a lot to prove in spite of the fact that his last full season saw an ERA of 2.99 because that season was all the way back in 2010. For the entirety of his career he has been one of the best starting pitchers in Major League Baseball however so he is bound to garner a lot of attention from many teams. One of the teams that is interested in Santana is the Minnesota Twins.
There are quite a few interesting things about the prospect of Santana signing with the Twins. The most obvious fact of course is that Santana started his career and became a perennial all-star with the Twins originally. He only left because the Twins couldn’t pay his large price tag as a matter of fact. That price tag is bound to go significantly down however because no one knows how well he will pitch or how healthy he will be able to stay.
It could very well be perfect for both sides if the Twins were able to sign their former starting pitcher. First of all the Twins could end up with one of the best starting pitchers in MLB at a bargain price if all worked out well. Secondly it would be a very comfortable place for Santana who has spent more time as a Twins pitcher than anything else in his professional career. It is of course anyone’s guess whether or not this connection could happen but the prospect of it happening is incredibly interesting.
