Seattle Mariners Rumors: Possible Big Moves Reek of Desperation
There are a lot of things happening around the Seattle Mariners and even more are rumored to be going on. They have a brand new manager in Lloyd McClendon. That is a solid but not guaranteed choice that allows them the freedom to both succeed and bolt after the season if things go badly. They left enough players open to free agency that it is clear they want to make some roster changes. The rumored outfield moves and pitching changes suggest that perhaps the Mariners’ GM could be feeling a little hot in his seat as well.
The wording used was that the Mariners wanted to change the conversation about themselves. Part of changing the conversation is going to include spending a ton of money on someone. The two free agents named as the ones they want the most are Shin-Soo Choo and Jacoby Ellsbury. Both of them will come at a higher price than they probably are worth in the long-run but they both would seem to signify a sense of desperation.
Jack Zduriencik is one of the least secure GMs in MLB this season as he might follow the manager he recently fired into the unemployment line if the Mariners have another losing season. To fend off the event of himself heading into that situation, it seems the GM wants to do everything that he can to ensure he creates a winning atmosphere this coming season. The only real question I would have about that is why it took so long to get there? I guess we will see what happens.
