There has been an acknowledged rumor that has circulated around Major League Baseball that the Milwaukee Brewers could trade outfielder Norichika Aoki to the New York Mets for Ike Davis. Even though this would be a great deal for the Mets, it is an acquisition that the Brewers must stay away from.

Even though Milwaukee is in desperate need of a first baseman, which is why many have the Brewers pegged to go after Davis or Los Angeles AngelsMark Trumbo, the reality is there is no need to make a trade to get one. Milwaukee shouldn’t sign Justin Morneau in free agency either.

I believe every fan out there knows exactly what needs to happen this winter and that is for the Brewers to re-sign Corey Hart. The slugger wants to return to Milwaukee so badly that he publicly stated he would take a pay cut to stay with the organization. Seriously, who does that in Milwaukee?

The fact that the Brewers recently saw video of Hart performing well in light drills gives the franchise even more confidence to bring him back. Not to mention, Hart is a far better asset at the plate and in the field than Davis is. On top of that, Milwaukee would be foolish to part ways with a very talented leadoff hitter in Aoki.

Even though it is unknown how well Hart’s knee will hold up going forward, I will still rather take his ability to crush 30 home runs and hit 80-100 RBI compared to Davis’ nine homers.
