Early in the MLB offseason the San Francisco Giants suggested by rumor that they might be willing to trade Pablo Sandoval. Thanks to the weak third baseman market the Giants have gotten a great deal of interest in Sandoval. That might seem like a good thing but it really is not. They have more reasons not to trade Sandoval than they ever had to say yes to a trade.
Only if the prospective trade would include another equally capable MLB ready third baseman would it even need to be considered. Of course why would they trade one third baseman for an equal one? That would just be silly. Sandoval has a lot of power potential that they need and he is the absolute best option at third base they have anywhere. It gets quickly to the point that you wonder why they suggested they were willing to trade him in the first place.
Basically they appear to just be gauging the market on Sandoval with zero real interest in a trade. They would have to really be blown completely away to send their best and only third base option away. As far as whether or not the interest they are seeing in Sandoval will be important during the season if they happen to bomb out once again; probably so. They would need Sandoval unless they are losing terribly and want to get some large value back out of a bad season. Other than that, he should stay.
