5 Reasons Why the Cleveland Indians Should Trade Asdrubal Cabrera

John Rieger- USA TODAY Sports

It's not every day that fans are calling for their team to trade one of their beloved stars, but that's the case in Cleveland at the moment. They've had a great relationship with shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, but as the saying suggests, "all good things must come to an end", and it appears that Cleveland fans believe it's time to end their good thing.

Last season, Cabrera had 14 home runs and 64 RBIs, but with one-year left on his contract, the Indians would be wise to trade him now and boost an already impressive roster, one that made the 2013 MLB playoffs and will be looking to do so in 2014. At 28, Asdrubal is in his prime and may be at his most marketable, meaning the Indians could seriously strengthen their team without weakening a position they already carry strength in.

When a player is traded, there is not always apparent reasons, nor are there always benefits; but with Asdrubal, there are clear indicators that now is the time for him to leave Cleveland. One year ago, rumors of a trade involving their hero wouldn't disappear and Tribe fans did not want to entertain trade discussions involving him. Now, everything has switched around and a large percentage of the fans agree that now is the time to trade Cabrera. For once in the city of Cleveland, the fans are wanting a trade to happen before it's forced upon them. This is a trade for the good of the team and here's five reasons why the Cleveland Indians should most definitely trade Asdrubal Cabrera.

Asdrubal Cabrera will be a free agent after the 2014 season, so perhaps it's time to trade him while they can?

4. He's Either Hot or Cold

Elite players have consistent at bats, but not Asdrubal. On a good day, he can be the best hitter in MLB; however, he can also be one of the worst. It'd be good to get rid of that kind of problem as the Tribe have consistent players on their roster already.

3. The Indians Need Pitching

Ubaldo Jimenez looks set to leave and the Indians already lacked pitching depth last season. With other batting options, why not trade Asdrubal and gain a starting pitcher in return?

2. The Indians Don't Need His Bat Anymore

David Richard- USA TODAY Sports

A few years back, The Indians needed Asdrubal's bat so they could win games. Now they have talents such as Nick Swisher, Jason Kipnis and others. As proven last year, The Indians would be fine without his inconsistent at-bats.

1. They Have Francisco Lindor and Mike Aviles

Kelley L Cox- USA Today Sports

Mike Aviles is more than capable of stepping up and replacing Asdrubal, perhaps even performing better. The Tribe also expects big things from teenage prospect Francisco Lindor -- could this be the year he makes his MLB debut?
