It’s been talked about for awhile now, but it’s official – you can buy facial hair from members of this year’s Boston Red Sox team. The World Series champs of course gained national attention when they decided to all grow beards during the 2013 season. Some say the comradery they formed helped to propel them all the way to the championship.

Check out the David Ortiz‘s shaven facial hair that you can officially bid on via eBay:

Red Sox beards

Here’s the official description:

“Up for auction is this one-of-a-kind, 100% authentic, David Ortiz 2013 Championship Beard Ball. Not only is this real championship beard hair, it is real championship MVP beard hair. David Ortiz’s beard ball was obtained on November 4th  at Gillette’s World Shaving Headquarters in Boston as part of a charity shave-off. Included with the beard ball is the actual Fusion ProGlide Styler used in the shave and a card of authenticity signed by Big Papi himself. “

As of the writing of this article, Ortiz’s beard ball is up to $720 and Shane Victorino’s is up to $360.

If you ask me, that’s a steep price to pay for dirty old facial hair, but at least the money is going to a good place.

It’s unknown whether the Red Sox will grow beards once again in 2014 or if they’ll try some other bond-forming tactic. As we all know, baseball players are incredibly superstitious, so you can count on the Red Sox doing something to try and top their 2013 beards.
