5 Reasons for Los Angeles Angels Fans to Be Thankful Heading into 2014

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

It is extremely easy for a Major League Baseball fan to forget the success of the past when faced with failure in the present tense. Such is the case for a lot of Los Angeles Angels fans no doubt. They are upset about how high the payroll is and how many big names the team has while at the same time getting fairly lousy results in 2013. No one is saying those fans don’t have a reason to be upset but they also have reasons to be thankful.

How many teams have done what the Angels have done over the past dozen or so years? Since 2002 they have been to the playoffs six times and they won the 2002 World Series. That is nothing to be ashamed of and actually it is something to be proud for. I know how it goes though. A little success breeds little expectations but a lot of succees breeds a ton of expectations.

As fans we wait for decades sometimes for a World Series title and then get upset if there isn’t one the immediate next season. Such is the nature of the beast I guess. Since that is the way things work in MLB, the Angels fans are no doubt clearly frustrated. However, they have a lot of reasons to be thankful heading into the 2014 season. Who knows, it could even provide their next World Series appearance.

Los Angeles Angels Doing a Better Job of Business This Offseason

Los Angeles Angels Must Improve Starting Pitching

Ranking the Los Angeles’ 5 Biggest Offseason Needs

5 – Albert Pujols Should be Healthy

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

There is no way to be sure until we see him during the season and see how he really does at the plate and around the diamond but Pujols being healthy is about as big of a deal as the Angels can get this offseason. He clearly was hampered by his foot problems all season long and hopefully they shut him down and fixed it early enough that he will be able to have some level of comfort for success in 2014. It could actually be the thing that makes or breaks the season.

4 – Josh Hamilton Will be Better

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The pressure of that first season of a big new contract is over and Hamilton is more comfortable all around. The evidence will be in the playing here as well but Hamilton should be much more productive at the start of 2014 than he was last season. Without a doubt he and Pujols being healthy would not only be something to be thankful for but also something to push the team towards a winning season.

3 – Good Offseason for GM

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Jerry Dipoto is going about his business very smart this offseason. I feel sure enough of this fact that I would be willing to bet that any move he makes is somewhat careful and likely a no-lose situation like signing a proven veteran closer. A good offseason for the GM will make for a better team all around.

2 – Closer Coming

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

That closer I mentioned; there is enough money left for the Angels to make sure they get a good one. That is going to be a key figure on this team this season and I can bet you that most fans will be thankful and stoked when they see the choice that the Angels bring in.

1 – Mike Trout Still Plays for the Angels

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Nothing sneaky or cute about this one; Trout is simply off to one of the best starts in the history of all MLB careers. The Angels fans should be thankful they get to watch this man develop and play at such an incredibly high level at that age. Every minute with him wearing an Angels uniform should be cherished by any Angels fan and baseball fan for that matter. He is good for the game and great for the Angels.
