No Matter the Outcome, Houston Astros Owner Jim Crane’s Lawsuit Should Please Fans
In a 2013 campaign that was at times painful to watch, one of the major stories that surrounded the Houston Astros was the lack of TV coverage and how that would be amended in the offseason. Many fans blamed new owner Jim Crane and continued to into the offseason when no deals were made. Now, however, fans should be overjoyed with Crane’s course of action.
Crane sued former Astros owner Drayton McLane, Comcast and NBC for selling him a product that they knew was broken and overpriced — or in legal terms, fraud and civil conspiracy.
Whatever ends up happening with the case and no matter how much, if any, money Crane can pull, this should do wonders for Astros nation’s faith in their new owner.
Crane pointed out that this is not something he did on a whim. His statements prove that he has the Astros best interest at heart, and that he isn’t just a businessman trying to turn a profit on his newest purchase. Crane claims that he is doing this because the opposition has made misrepresentations that may damage the Astros for the next 20 years. “We will not allow this to happen to the franchise,” he stated to the media.
At a time when the Astros are building from the bottom of the league, it’s good to see all hands on deck. Crane has done everything right in his time in Houston. He’s committing a healthy amount of money to payroll, and this lawsuit proves that he wants the best for the team.
