5 Reasons Why Brian McCann Will Dominate With New York Yankees

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The deal that the New York Yankees signed with catcher Brian McCann is easily their best move in a while. It might prove to be one move that helps them get back to the World Series as they have been lacking in the catcher department. McCann was the best free agent on the market at the catcher position and will not disappoint in his output this upcoming season. As a matter of fact I would bet he will dominate.

Though the Yankees certainly are not finished in their dealings this offseason, they have made a deal with McCann that will be one of their best all offseason. It probably will be the best. First of all it’s for a ton of money but not a ridiculous amount of money at right at $85 to $100MM. McCann could have demanded more than that but he is worth that much for a few years at least. The Yankees were able to lock him in so that they can build the rest of their team.

One hidden thing that McCann does is free up the situation with Robinson Cano a little bit. Cano is a very productive player at second base but McCann is also very productive compared to the catchers the Yankees have had of late. That might give the Yankees room for negotiating a little harder with the all-star second baseman. Now, here are five reasons that prove McCann will be a very productive and dominant catcher for the Yankees.

5 – Great Receiver

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

McCann is a solid all-around ballplayer but one thing he has always been respected for is being a great receiver. He will put in the work it takes to learn the tendencies of every pitcher on the Yankees staff and will be an asset to each of them very soon.

4 – Will Learn A.L. Hitters

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

No one is going to work harder than McCann to learn the scouting reports of the hitters that he hasn’t seen a ton of in the American League. He will work extremely hard on this and will likely be well ahead of schedule in learning the hitters by the time spring training begins.

3 – Easy Swing

He is a great hitter with an easy swing. There will not likely be mechanical issues with a foot or a hand out of place for McCann. He is simply a great hitter and will provide consistent offensive production every single time he is in the line-up.

2 – Short Porch in Right

McCann is accustomed to a rather large pitcher’s park in Turner Field. Moving to Yankee Stadium with a relatively short porch in right is bound to increase his home run total and overall run production.

1 – Solid and Reliable Arm

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The surgically repaired shoulder of McCann is well healed and he proved all last season that his arm is as good as or even better than it has ever been. Whenever he is behind the plate he will certainly be strong enough at throwing out base-runners that he will garner some respect from the base stealers of the league.
