2013 MLB Winter Meetings: Corey Hart and Bronson Arroyo Likely to Stay Put?
The rumors of what would happen to Bronson Arroyo and Corey Hart who are both free agents this offseason; have spun throughout the 2013 MLB Winter Meetings. While neither player could be said to be coming off their best season in 2013, they still have garnered quite a bit of interest on the open free agent market this week. Developments now have arisen that make it seem very possible that both will return to their former teams.
Hart has had offers from teams but has said all along that he wanted to stay with the Milwaukee Brewers. Bucking the trend in baseball today, Hart is willing to take less money to remain loyal to his former team. Don’t we all wish that wasn’t as rare as it is? Nonetheless, the Brewers are interested in bringing Hart back into the fold in Milwaukee. The fact that they are willing at all pretty much tells us where he will play.
Arroyo has garnered interest from quite a few teams including a big push from the Minnesota Twins on the first day of the Winter Meetings. Now there are other teams involved but the one that matters most is the Cincinnati Reds. Arroyo seemed resigned half-way through 2013 that he was in his final season with the Reds. Now that they want him back, he could possibly be convinced to take a little less to stay there as well. Time will tell.
It’s always fun to watch players move all over the place. Some part of us gets excited when a new player is added to our favorite team or when a veteran gets a new chance to show what he can do. In this day of free agency and crazy contracts, it is refreshing to this writer that there is even a decent chance that two all-star caliber players could be convinced to stay home.
