Where Is Philadelphia Phillies’ Big Move?
The Winter Meetings for MLB have come and gone. Everyone was expecting the Philadelphia Phillies to make a big move. They failed to answer and barely made any noise. With Spring Training around the corner, will the team decide to shake up the lineup?
GM Ruben Amaro Jr. has been known for making big moves. In previous offseasons, they had gotten Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, etc. Is a big name going to come for the 2014 season? Amaro makes it seem as if the Phillies are coming up with a plan, but hasn’t said a word about what it is. This is making Phillies fans very doubtful that something is coming.
During the meetings, it seemed that every other team was at work improving their team. There were teams that were willing to part with their better players and try something new. Teams also were willing to open up their wallets and sign top free agents. Amaro just sat back and watched.
It does not make sense why the Phillies did not make a move during the meetings as they still have work to do. It would be nice to see them add a power hitter. They also might want to consider adding help to their bullpen. It has also been reported that they have been looking at big-name starting pitchers, which would not hurt since they only have Cole Hamels and Lee left.
Sure, it is not even Christmas yet, but these big names are going to go to other teams. The Phillies need to make the big move that they say they are planning. If they don’t soon, they are going to miss out. If they do not make this move, it is one more thing the fans are going to be disappointed about going into the season. Come on Amaro, give us something to look forward to!
