You know there have to be a ton of Kansas City Royals fans who are wincing still at the Rookie of the Year worthy season that their former prospect Wil Myers had for the Tampa Bay Rays. At least the Rays had to give up a couple of good pitchers, one of ace-level stuff for sure. Hold on to your hats Royals fans because the Rays might have another player for you to wince at in the 2014 Major League Baseball season.
Jake Odorizzi is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and the number two prospect in the Rays minor league system. Some say he might only reach as high as a number 3 starter spot but for that to be suggested as a bad thing is kind of funny. No one expects him to take over for David Price or anything. The fact remains, however that he has command of four separate pitches and that should go a long way towards helping him stick soon at the MLB level.
Hopefully the Royals fans won’t begrudge the Rays their successes in the players that came over in the Myers trade. They could get a really long look at Odorizzi if the Rays trade Price. Facts being what they are, Odorizzi will probably make the team regardless of what happens with Price. He’s been part of a September call-up two seasons in a row and has spent parts of two seasons at Triple-A. The numbers suggest he is ready and it seems clear that he is.
