Toronto Blue Jays’ Disinterest In Ervin Santana Will Only Further Disappoint Fans
As the MLB free agent rumor mill starts to move its attention towards Ervin Santana over the next day or so, fans of the Toronto Blue Jays shouldn’t get too excited. According to Mike Wilner of Rogers Sportsnet, the team north of the border doesn’t seem to be interested in the available righty.
This comes as a massive disappointment to Blue Jays faithful everywhere as fans of the team are desperate for answers regarding how the team is going to complete its starting pitching rotation. The Jays have been linked to Santana over the past month or so, but have failed to make any moves that would help solidify them as a contender to land the native of the Dominican Republic.
Instead, it seems as though one of their division rivals in the Baltimore Orioles is the team that are pushing to ink Santana, which would only make the situation worse for the Jays. It would add salt to the wound if the Jays missed out on the opportunity of signing Santana and then had to face him a number of times during the season. Knowing the lack of luck that surrounds the Jays with free agents, this situation will probably play out against them.
The only positive thing that could come out of this for the Jays is that they may actually be focusing their attention on potentially signing Ubaldo Jimenez instead of Santana. However, given Alex Anthopoulos‘ track record in regard to acquiring free agents, don’t hold your breath for this to happen if you are partial towards Toronto.
Anthopoulos is notorious for letting free agents slip away due to his inability to attract them to Toronto and his obsession with only wanting to make trades. This could be a very long week and an even longer Spring Training for the Blue Jays.
