There is not a lot of room for addition when it comes to the Boston Red Sox starting pitching rotation. The guys they have are pretty solid. Never let it be said that they do not have options however. Upcoming during 2014 Spring Training there will be not one or two but a few very promising pitching prospects. That will include among others the top right handed pitching prospect in the system, Allen Webster.

Webster is not doing badly at all. You might say he is riding a constant wave of momentum that began last spring and carried him all the way to a start or three in the majors. While those MLB starts produced an ERA over eight, that still couldn’t diminish his momentum. Heading into 2014 Spring Training, it is very possible that Webster could be mentioned in terms of a spot on the roster.

He likely would not make the roster out of the spring because they will want him to keep getting starts on a regular basis. Don’t be surprised however if he is someone that they call up again at the end of the regular season. This time if he did well he might be given more prominent relief roles heading into the postseason.

The Red Sox of course have the final decision on what to do with his talented arm. If he has another great Spring Training this time around however, he could place his name at the top of a lot of the Red Sox lists of pitching possibilities going into the regular season. Either way, it won’t be long before he is starting in the majors for someone so get a look at his spring work now.
