When young pitching prospects attend MLB Spring Training it is many things. I’m sure it’s a blast of fun as well as being a ton of work. Most of all they are able to soak in a ton of knowledge and experience from MLB pitchers within just a few weeks of time. For Kansas City Royals prospect Jason Adam there is more to do than just soak up the experience points however.

Though he is still only 22 years old currently, Adam is already riding around the Double-A level. His stuff is great and his strikeouts are already high year in and year out. There are some areas that he has to get better in before being ready for a promotion to MLB or even Triple-A possibly. His ERA is high because of a lack of control and consistency on the mound.

Many prospects will be in learning mode for the spring but I believe Adam will be firmly working on his mechanics and habits so that he can gain a better measure of control. Consistency is what makes a good pitcher into a Cy-Young candidate. Right now Adam doesn’t really have that either. Though he is still very young, this is the time to get it right.

If he is able to take this spring and set himself on a positive path going forward, he could very well start the ascension to MLB level right now. That means he won’t make it for another year at the earliest but the path there could really begin after this spring if he has a great period of work during these few weeks. Here is hoping he makes the most of it.
