The Philadelphia Phillies have their first spring training game in less than a week. They will not only have to decide who makes the bench but who makes their bullpen. There are potentially seven spots available and likely four spots already taken. Phillippe Aumont was shaky last season, so will he get a chance to redeem himself in 2014?

Aumont was with the Phillies from April until July and had an ERA of 4.19 with a record of 1-3. In 19 games pitched he gave up 11 runs, nine earned. The plus side was Aumont did not give up any home runs.

It is fair to say that Aumont had a rough season. He was sent back and forth to the majors and minors numerous times during the season. How can you be focused on your game if you’re moving from place to place? I think it would be hard to keep making that transition from Major Leagues to Triple A.

Aumont has entered spring training ready to go. He has said that he feels better both physically along with mentally, so hopefully it will show during time on the mound from the get-go.

Aumont has tough competition ahead of him. If he keeps the focus on him and his game then he could have a good chance. If he starts to worry about others then that’s where he could lose his spot.

The bullpen is an important aspect of a team, so it’s going to be a tough decision for the Phillies’ coaching staff to decide who gets a spot. Aumont needs to give it his all and not give up until all the spots are taken. He made it last season; he sure can make it again.
