Scott Boras’ Strong Words Against Toronto Blue Jays Not Good For Club’s Future

It didn’t take very long for the Toronto Blue Jays‘ lackluster offseason to go from bad to worse. Baseball agent extraordinaire, Scott Boras, had some choice words for the organization that involved the team’s inability to make necessary moves over the offseason. Boras is one of the many sports figures who realizes that Rogers Communications is one of the sports world’s wealthiest ownership groups that has no reason to not want to open up their pocketbook to help strengthen their baseball club.

It’s unfortunate that Rogers and Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos don’t have the ability to realize what kind of rare position they should find themselves in. With the massive amount of money they possess as well as the protection they have on their first-round draft picks, the Jays should have been ready and willing to make some moves and perhaps sign one or two key free agents. Instead, they will be forced to dig deep into what is an already depleted minor league system thanks to the blockbuster trade Anthopoulos pulled off with the Miami Marlins before the start of the 2013 season.

It’s no surprise that the outspoken and very successful agent came out to attack the Jays’ organization only a few days before the beginning of spring training. What this means for the future of the negotiations Anthopoulos will have in regards to his ball club is anything but positive. Anthopoulos is hard to negotiate with already, and now he has to deal with the fact that he has been called out by arguably the most successful agent in the history of sports worldwide.

If Anthopoulos and the rest of the Jays’ front office can’t find a way to erase the damage that has been done to their reputation by Boras’ harsh words, don’t expect many GMs and agents from around the major leagues to want to do any sort of business with the Jays for a very long time.
