“For the love of the game” is the excuse many athletes and fans have used over the years for doing stupid stuff. Well, that was the case Monday during a game between the Miami Marlins and New York Mets when a fan of the former team took off after a ground-rule double ball that bounced over the fence. He was in the grass area beyond the centerfield wall, so it was only natural. The problem was he was at the top of a hill holding onto a wagon stroller with his young son in it.
As is the case with gravity, the boy began rolling down the hill uncontrollably in what is being called a runaway wagon. As the dad approached the ball on the ground, he realized his son was rolling away, stopped and ran after the wagon about the time it reached the back of the centerfield wall. The boy was fine as the wagon didn’t really even hit the wall, but the dad won’t be winning any Father of the Year awards anytime soon.
