Opening Day 2014: Philadelphia Phillies Season Outlook

2014 Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies enter the 2014 season overly optimistic in their veteran players. There is a chance the Phillies could compete for the NL East title, but it is very unlikely. Once feared slugger Ryan Howard only played in 151 games over the past two seasons, and ace Cole Hamels isn't going to be ready for Opening Day.
If the Phillies' core can display its full arsenal of talent, they will have a chance to succeed; otherwise it might a long summer.

Last season the Phillies went 73-89, finished fourth in the NL East and featured several different lineups. They look to have a more stable lineup that should produce more runs, but they still failed to address their bullpen problems. They ranked in the bottom third of the league in all hitting categories last season but should see those numbers increase with a healthy Howard, Revere and addition of Byrd.

Prediction: 79-83 3rd NL East
