Opening Day 2014: Kansas City Royals Season Outlook

One coach said of the Kansas City Royals that last year they thought they could win games but this season they know they can. They aren't the only ones who see how improved the offense could be, how solid the pitching staff could remain and how awesome the defense still is. Everyone sees this team coming but that does not mean that anyone will be able to stop them.

1 – Alex Gordon: For this team, Gordon is MVP candidate number one and Hosmer is number two. Both are critical to the team's success and should have great seasons.
2 – Eric Hosmer
3 – Salvador Perez: Quickly becoming one of the elite catchers in the game, Perez should have another stellar year behind the plate.
4 – Nori Aoki
5 – Mike Moustakas

1 – James Shields: There is little doubt about Shields being one of the best pitchers on this team. He is in fact one of the top starters in the game.
2 – Greg Holland: Look for Holland's closer stock to rise again this season with another great and reliable season closing games for the Royals.
3 – Jason Vargas
4 – Bruce Chen
5 – Aaron Crow

1 – Nori Aoki: If this offense works much better this season than it did last season, Aoki will have to be one of the key reasons as he gets on base and makes things happen.
2 – Jason Vargas: Though he might not have been wonderful in 2013 for the Angels, look for Vargas to be a huge addition to this team down the stretch.
3 – Omar Infante
4 – Danny Valencia
5 – Francisco Pena

1 – Yordano Ventura: By all accounts, Ventura should end up being one of the better starters in the rotation for the Royals this year. He also happens to be a rookie.
2 – Kyle Zimmer: The future for Zimmer looks just as bright as Ventura's at the very least. He might have an impact later in the year but certainly looks to be a big name next season.
3 – Bubba Starling
4 – Adalberto Mondesi
5 – Jorge Bonifacio

Overall Season Prediction

Even though the other teams in the American League Central know how good the Royals could be this year, I don't think they will be able to match them. Not only will the defense remain good this season but I imagine the offense and pitching staff will do just as well. This will make them extremely tough to beat.

Final Record and Season Prediction: 99 – 63, 1st in the A.L. Central, Will make it to ALDS.
