Both Tom Verducci and Harold Reynolds picked the Royals to win their division on a three-man segment on MLB Network. MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince thinks KC will provide the league with its best story this year by beating out the Detroit Tigers to win the Central, and even presents Eric Hosmer as a possible league MVP.
This ESPN list shows predictions for the divisional and Wild Card winners from 44 esteemed baseball pros. The likes of Dan Schulman, Tim Kurkjian and many others gave their picks to this 2014 poll, and the results are extremely telling. 15 out of these 44 experts chose KC to reach the playoffs, and six chose the Royals to win the Central.
Well-known experts that picked KC as their AL Central champs include ESPN’s Pedro Gomez, Jayson Stark and ESPN The Magazine’s Steve Wulf, who also predicts that Kansas City will reach the World Series. You won’t catch many fans, especially myself, thinking too much into other people’s opinions, but these positive predictions are an undeniably good sign.
Folks around baseball understand that guys like Stark know their stuff, and even though I actually disagree with his prediction of a Royals divisional championship, his opinion about anything related to baseball means something. Many expert analysts have now realized Detroit’s potential for struggles through the 2014 season and hopped on the Royals bandwagon. Kansas City is now one of the trendiest underdogs picks in MLB, and that’s a great sign that KC has an improved chance at success this season.
